Lose Weight With Our 4 Phase Process

Our programs are based on these 4 Phases:

1. Screening – A medical evaluation during your first visit

2. Weight loss – A treatment plan that may include grocery store foods, meal replacements, medications, exercise, and personal support

3. Adapting – An adjustment period as you reach your goal weight

4. Maintenance – A plan to continue your nutrition, exercise and lifestyle choices for long-term success

Weight loss app optimal wellness center

An important part of our program is our weight loss app where you chart your weight and journal your food and activity. Dr Keller can give you feedback regarding food and activity between your office visits.

The app is HIPPA  compliant and completely private. You can message Dr. Keller with any questions or concerns between your visits. Using the app helps keep you on track, keeps you accountable and allows Dr. Keller to make changes to help you to continue to lose weight or maintain your weight depending on what phase you are in.

Phase 1 – Screening

Your first visit is a 90 to 120 -minute screening medical evaluation with Dr. Keller. This phase allows us to identify any medical needs and determine what food plan is right for you.

We start with a detailed medical history, a physical exam, some laboratory tests, and an InBody test — a an important measure of your body’s composition so that we can design the best plan specifically for you.

The InBody Test for Essential Data and a Baseline

The InBody test not only measures your weight and body mass (BMI). It also determines the amount of calories used if you were to sit all day — your basal metabolic rate, or BMR. This is invaluable in designing the meal plan that works for you.

So that you can see your progress, we also use InBody test as a baseline to measure:

  • Percent of body fat,
  • Segmental Lean Muscle,
  • Amount of visceral fat (the fat around your organs, which has much greater negative impact on your health)

Dr. Keller will go over these results with you at your screening visit. We will repeat the InBody testing at regular intervals, to ensure you are losing fat yet retaining or building muscle

Laboratory Tests to Plan Your Medical Care

Dr. Keller will order laboratory tests to determine if  any underlying medical conditions are impacting your weight, including EKG if indicated.

In addition to looking for underlying medical conditions that can affect your weight, Dr. Keller recommends specific genetic testing. They provide insight into weight tendencies and learn how gene variants may influence diet, exercise and treatment options.

If you are not at your correct weight and having trouble getting or staying at your correct weight, you may be metabolically resistant.

Following complete laboratory tests, Dr. Keller provides an personalized food plan based on your genetic makeup, metabolic work up and preferences. She may also suggest lifestyle modifications, and may also recommend dietary supplements, medical foods, meal replacements and or medications to help you reach your correct weight.

Other factors Dr. Keller will address with you that can influence your weight include medications (that cause weight gain), lifestyle, stress, sleep, exercise, and environment.

We will also send you home with “Get Started” packet, which will prepare you for starting the weight loss phase of your program.

Phase 2 – Weight Loss

After your initial screening, we will see you back the following week to begin the weight loss phase. Dr. Keller will review your labs, your genetic tests and repeat your InBody test.

Your first follow up visit takes about 60 minutes. Based on your screening visit and preferences we will recommend an easy to follow food plan.

Dr. Keller’s recommendations may include nutritional supplements, meal replacement options, and medications.

In order to get to your correct weight and develop metabolic flexibility the types of foods, the amount, and the timing are all important. It is also important to address your lifestyle, getting enough sleep, managing stress, and engaging in regular activity to help reset your metabolism.

The importance of follow-up

Studies show that the three things that lead to long-term success are:

  1. Adherence to your meal plan
  2. Follow-up
  3. Regular exercise

Follow-up visits are essential to the success of your weight loss phase!

Follow-up visits will also address nutrition, dietary changes, behavior, sleep, exercise, stress reduction, mindfulness, and any issues that may interfere with you adhering to you plan.

Dr. Keller also uses Cognitive Behavioral techniques to help you overcome any obstacles and keep you on track with your weight loss plan. Your follow-up visits are totally personalized to your specific needs and goals.

Success comes from adherence to your meal plan. You cannot continue to eat the way you do and expect a different outcome. Once you are on the right food plan you will start to see weight loss.

Our programs are based on the latest scientific research. With proven results you will lose weight, keep it off and improve your health.

Lifestyle counseling for weight loss

A big part of our program is providing lifestyle counseling.

We help guide you to a healthier lifestyle and teach weight management skills. You learn healthy nutritional choices, behavior modification, physical activity that is right for you, stress management, we address sleep issues and medical concerns associated with weight. Your follow up visits address your specific needs and goals.
