Your First Visit

Your first visit is a 90 to 120 -minute screening medical evaluation with Dr. Keller to determine what food plan is right for you. You will have a detailed history, a physical exam and an InBody test will be performed.

The InBody test, not only measures your weight and BMI, it also determines your BMR (which is the amount of calories you burn/day if you were to sit all day). This measurement will be invaluable in designing the diet that works for you. In addition The InBody, tells you your % Body Fat, Segmental Lean Muscle, as well as the amount of visceral fat (This is the fat around your organs, which has much greater negative impact on your health.)  

Dr. Keller will go over these results with you at your screening visit. We will repeat the InBody testing at regular intervals, to ensure you are losing fat yet retaining or building muscle.

Your Medical Exam at the Optimal Wellness Medical Weight Loss Center

Dr. Keller will order laboratory tests to determine if  any underlying medical conditions are impacting your weight, including EKG if indicated. In addition to looking for underlying medical conditions that can effect your weight, Dr Keller recommends specific genetic testing, to gain insight into weight tendencies and learn how gene variants may influence diet, exercise and treatment options.

Dr. Keller provides an  individualized food plan based on your genetic makeup, metabolic work up and preferences. She may also suggest lifestyle modifications, and  may also recommend, supplements, medical foods, meal replacements and or medications to help you reach your correct weight. We will also send you home with “Get Started” packet, which will prepare you for starting the weight loss phase of your program.

Weight Loss and Your Metabolism

If you are not at your correct weight and having trouble getting or staying at your correct weight, you are metabolically resistant.

In order to get to your correct weight and develop metabolic flexibility, the types of foods, the amount, and the timing are all important. It is also important to address your lifestyle, getting enough sleep, managing stress, and engaging in regular activity to help reset your metabolism.

Other factors Dr. Keller will address with you that can influence your weight include medications (that cause weight gain), endocrine disrupters, climate control, social networks, infections, and modern conveniences.

Success comes from adherence to your meal plan. You cannot continue to eat the way you do and expect a different outcome.

What Success Looks Like at our Medical Weight Loss Center

Once you are on the right food plan you will start to see weight loss.

Follow up is required! Studies show that the three things that lead to long-term success are:

A big part of our program is providing lifestyle counseling. We help guide you to a healthier lifestyle and teach weight management skills. You learn healthy nutritional choices, behavior modification, physical activity that is right for you, stress management, we address sleep issues and medical concerns associated with weight. Your follow up visits address your specific needs and goals.

To get to where you what to be, feeling good, being healthy, and reducing your risk of developing chronic diseases, you need to make a commitment to yourself. This is a choice to invest in yourself now and even more important you are investing in your future self. Many chronic conditions are associated with excess weight, including metabolic syndrome, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, stroke, increased risk of infections and complications related to infections, and some cancers.

4 phases of weight loss at our medical weight loss center

1) Health screening: After your initial screening , we will see you back the following week to begin the weight loss phase. Dr. Keller will review your lab results, your genetic tests and repeat your InBody. Based on your screening visit and preferences we will recommend an easy-to-follow food plan.

In addition, supplements, and or medications, maybe recommended.

Follow-up visits will also address, nutrition, dietary changes, behavior, sleep, exercise, stress reduction, mindfulness, and any issues that may interfere with you adhering to you plan. Your first follow up visit is 60 minutes.

2) Weight loss: Dr Keller also uses Cognitive Behavioral techniques to help you overcome any obstacles (diet traps) and keep you on track with your weight loss plan.

Your follow up visits are totally individualized to your specific needs and goals.

3) Adapting to new weight: The next phase of our programs is adapting where you are now close to your goal weight. You gradually introduce more grocery foods and calories while practicing newly learned eating habits and weight management skills. Calories are adjusted so you are no longer losing weight.

4) Maintenance phase: You continue to practice your new lifestyle skills with continued support and using our proven relapse prevention tools.
